Project Walk Through

At the beginning of every project you are expected to “walk through” the job with the client or their designated person

This process is ; Prepare, Greet, Explore, Execute, Present, and Wrap Up,

Pre-Installation Checklist

After you have completed the Pre-Installation Checklist you are ready to begin the project

Always verify compliance with local codes, when in doubt call and ask!

Verify the work you have been sent to perform is what was ordered by the client.

Verify you are installing the correct equipment. Verify voltage available versus voltage on equipment label.

Read manufacturer’s installation instructions and job package in its entirety before beginning

Review all the materials that are on site a determine if any additional materials will be needed BEFORE starting, contact your supervisor to determine the best course of action to get the materials. You should always avoid leaving the job site for materials as well as having two people go to get materials.

Review project labor budget, if there is any reason why the project cannot be completed on time, contact your manager immediately

Care must always be taken to protect the home or building whenever any work is being done. The use of drop cloths, in interior work areas, during any project is mandatory.

Always wear shoe covers (booties), remove shoes, or only walk on drop cloths. In the unlikely event that something is broken or damaged while working, contact your supervisor immediately. Never try to “cover up” the problem. Everyone is human and we all make mistakes, the only thing wrong at this point would be to not let someone know. You and your supervisor will determine the appropriate course of action. Do not inform the client until after you have spoken with your supervisor.

Whenever possible, perform ALL work that is to be done inside the home at the beginning of the project. Make every attempt to cut ANY and ALL holes that may need to be cut, as soon as possible. Often this is the area of the project where adjustments may have to be made. Doing this at the beginning of the project allows plenty of time for good decision making.

Use caution while walking through attic, it is strongly recommended to set up drop lights while working in attic.

Be sure to put down plywood if needed to have a proper and safe work area.

Keep cords clear of work areas at all times.

Always perform a walkthrough of entire project, make any notes about problems with entire system including ducting before beginning any work. Recommend accessories if not indicated on work order or congratulate client on choice of accessories as purchased. Advise client of any concerns before beginning work. This is important, especially if there are problems that will be discovered after you have done your work.

The House Call Company strives to maintain the highest integrity on all projects, it is your duty to inform the client BEFORE you start working, once you start it is too late, you are likely to get the blame.

Example: the drain pan is corroded and will be a hazard for future leaks.

In the event a potential concern is found while working, stop, inform client immediately (always remain calm and assure client that The House Call Company will help find the best way to resolve the problem), call supervisor, and determine appropriate action.

The real truth is that there is no way the salesperson could have be sure to cover everything that may be needed or uncovered, it’s okay to ask the client for additional work that will ensure a quality product.

Turn off power to unit.

If you must turn off breakers in the main panel, inform client before turning off breaker. Breakers are often mislabeled and you may turn off a computer or something else that may cause a problem for the client. Just let them know this could happen if a breaker is mislabeled. Let them give you the okay before turning off the breaker

ALWAYS USE CARE AND CAUTION CARRYING MATERIALS UP & DOWN LADDERS AND PULL DOWN STAIRS, CALL FOR HELP IF NEEDED

If converting refrigerants, refrigerant lines must be flushed with approved product or lineset replaced

Before Beginning the actual project, be sure to assign duties to all personnel on site, everyone should be clear about their individual responsibilities to deliver the project on time and on budget before the work begins. It is typical to get help when removing equipment or setting into place. Make sure to plan in advance to eliminate the need for two people to be working in the same area. The lead mechanic/technician should complete the most crucial or difficult parts of the project while the assistant completes the basic tasks. Plan the project so that you both do not have to be in the same work area at the same time. (one working outside and one working inside is most preferred)
