Refrigerant Recovery Procedure

 

This procedure is designed to be used as a guide to complete the refrigerant recovery in the most effective and efficient way possible. This checklist can also be used when training an assistant to provide the mechanic/technician with tools to direct the assistant.

 

  • Follow standard procedures for service/install.

  • Obtain and record weight of empty recovery bottle.

  • Take empty recovery bottle, vacuum pump, extension cord, and gauge manifold to unit to be recovered.

  • Plug in extension cord.

  • Hook recovery bottle to vacuum pump.

  • Pull vacuum on recovery bottle.

  • Bring recovery machine to equipment to be recovered.

  • Bring tool carrier with ALL hand tools to unit to be recovered.

  • Discontinue pulling vacuum on recovery bottle and keep vacuum on recovery bottle.

  • Hook hose from recovery bottle directly to liquid line of equipment.

  • Open valve on recovery bottle and allow refrigerant to equalize into bottle.

  • Once flow has stopped…hook up recovery machine following instruction for the recovery machine.

  • Allow machine to complete removal of refrigerant.

  • Make sure to leave system “open” to prevent any buildup of pressure.

  • Upon completion secure machine and put back in proper place in company vehicle.

  • Complete all required paperwork (invoice, etc.).

  • Collect payment whenever possible.

  • Take bottle back to vehicle and obtain and record weight in appropriate form.

  • Turn in bottle and form to office/warehouse and get empty bottle and secure in proper place in vehicle.

Although this video is manufacturer specific, is still provides all the basics needed for recovery.

 

Don’t forget to check the date on your recovery bottle to ensure it is suitable for use.
